Public School Make-up Schedule and Daily Time Changes Announced

 

ST. THOMAS, USVI –The Virgin Islands Department of Education announces its make-up schedule for schools affected by the delay in openings at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.

As mandated by the Virgin Islands Code (17 V.I.C. §61a), students should receive 1,080 instructional hours each academic year. In compliance with the law, the Department has decided to extend the school day as opposed to adding instructional days to the calendar. Extra time allotted to school days range from 30-90 minutes with some schools starting earlier and/or ending later.

Make-up schedules began on November 26 and will end on various dates according to each school’s make-up plan. Once the make-up schedule ends, the school will return to its original start and end times.

In addition, schools will adjust lunch schedules as needed. The school lunch program will also provide snack options for students.

Daily block schedule times for junior and senior high schools can be requested through those schools. Parents and students have been notified of the time changes through the PowerSchool Parent Portal and notices sent home with students.
